M A S T E R F I L E 2 . 0 U P D A T E S
by Robert Cook
MASTERFILE was a generic database program we published on LOADSTAR 128
#7. Then on LOADSTAR 128 #14 we published a greatly revised version called
MASTERFILE II. These programs allowed you to set up a custom database of up
to 500 or so items, with fields defined just as you wanted them.
Robert Cook, the author, has kept up with MASTERFILE II and, thanks to
feedback from users, has written some "updates" that will make the program
work better. We don't have room to present the whole program over again,
but if you run these three "UPDATE" programs, then insert your MASTERFILE II
disk, the programs will update the MASTERFILE II file without your having to
do any programming.
In addition, Robert has come up with a MASTERFILE FILE CONCATENATOR
that will allow you to append two MF data files together as one. This is
handy if you have created two or more data files but later decide that you'd
like to merge them so you can search or sort them together. You should copy
the CONCATENATOR over to your MASTERFILE II disk where it will be available
should you need it.
NOTE: The update files are not full-blown LOADSTAR programs. In fact you
might call them Q & D (quick and dirty). They aren't bootable from the
LOADSTAR 128 menu and they don't return to LOADSTAR. To use them, just have
a copy of your MASTERFILE II disk handy -- just in case, you should use a
COPY of your MF disk, not the original -- and RUN each program in turn from
the LOADSTAR 128 #18 disk. You'll be prompted to insert your MF copy at the
right time. The file will automatically be loaded, amended, and saved.
Here's what each update does:
UPDATE #1 - Corrects the formatting of column totals and adds a space
between records.
UPDATE #2 - Corrects a problem in the "sort by date" routine.
UPDATE #3 - Adds a cursor bar to the number pad. 8 = up 2 = down
The filenames are "mfile 2.0 up#1", "mfile 2.0 up#2" and "mfile 2.0
up#3". The concatenator is called "concat.mfile".
CONCATENATOR will prompt you for each of the filenames of your MF
files. Just follow the prompts. Again, be prudent and use a copy of
MASTERFILE II.
